About — one culture, two disciplines

Designers at heart. From software to cinema.

One design culture, two disciplines, fifteen-plus years. The engineers think like designers. The directors do too. That's the whole trick.

The studio happened to us

POWER SHIFTER started as a digital product studio and stayed one — design-led from the first hire, never a dev shop, building platforms and products for brands like TELUS, Energizer, and lululemon. The founder came up the other way around: film and television, then commercial production alongside Ridley Scott's Black Dog Films and ILM, then design.

That history sat quietly for fifteen years. Then generative AI made it relevant overnight. Most of the field is still making spec spots. We're making the real thing, on six-figure client budgets — a second discipline we didn't plan, staffed by people who've been making pictures for decades. We didn't chase the trend. The trend circled back to where we started.

So now there are two doors: software and cinema. Behind both, the same design culture and the same rule — the work and the place it lives, made in the same room.

Leadership — the people

One team

Six leads, two disciplines, no wall between them. Experts, regardless of seniority — and you'll work with them directly.

Principles — how we work

How we work, in three sentences

  1. 01

Your experts work directly with our experts, with no middle layer to dilute the details — nothing gets lost in translation with the right specialists always in the room.

  2. 02

You'll see work early and often (and sometimes ugly), so we're rarely more than one degree off course, and never for long.

  3. 03

We put people at the centre of everything we do, creating meaningful engagement, thoughtful simplicity and ease of use throughout our collaboration.

The best experts don’t live where you’d assume.

POWER SHIFTER is a work-from-anywhere agency. Our experts are spread across Canada — coast to coast and every point between, from city cores to the suburbs to small towns. We hire for the work, not the postal code, because the best people rarely cluster where you’d expect them to. And that “same room” we keep mentioning? It’s a discipline, not an address — we just bring it with us.

Two doors: software and cinema. Same room.

Bring us the problem. You'll work with the people who solve it.
